Aim

The aims of the trip are to train, learn; act as good ambassadors for our club; and to have a good time. Training is our primary reason for travelling to Denmark so it is important that all those involved in the training sessions make a point of arrive at the designated times and being fully focused and prepared. The coaches will be setting more specific objectives for the individual gymnasts to achieve.

This is will be the 14th time that Bracknell Gymnastics Club has been represented outside of the UK. It is very important that we make a good impression in terms of our attitude to learning and our general behaviour in and outside of training. It would be very good if we could make friends and get invited to other training camps and competitions throughout the World. Of course, this is not to say that we can’t have fun and relax, we just have to be considerate and make sure our fun does not upset anyone else.

Staff

Peter Tranckle (Head of Delegation, Welfare & Medical Officer)

Chris Bennett (Coach & Chaperone)

Lewis Jones (Coach & Chaperone)

Clare Clarke (Coach & Chaperone)

Team Management

The Head of Delegation (HoD) will be responsible for the group from the start of the trip to the end (when they arrive back in the UK). Specific responsibilities will include airport transfers, flights, accommodation, insurance and finance. In addition, the HoD will take overall responsibility for monitoring appropriate behaviour and ensuring proper discipline. Our one golden rule has always been that must not be broken!!! “Our behaviour must be considerate and not cause upset to others.” Therefore, any complaints received about our behaviour will be treated as extremely serious and will be handled by the Head of Delegation (in consultation with the staff) and will be subject to review by the club’s board of directors if future sanctions are in order.

Coaches

The coaches will be responsible for the training programme, setting objectives for each individual gymnast and evaluating progress. See the timetable for the training times.

Welfare Officer

The welfare officer will attend to issues of welfare in confidence, but in consultation with other trained welfare staff if appropriate.

Rules

1.0Aims

1.1The primary aim of the trip is gymnastics training, using the advanced facilities to help develop new skills.

1.2The secondary aim of the trip is enjoyment and team bonding.

2.0Authority

2.1Head of Delegation, in consultation with the Coaches and Chaperones has the authority to send gymnasts home early if it is in the best interests of their well-being or the delegation’s.

2.2Any deviation from these rules must have the express permission of the head of delegation each and every time in advance.

2.3Staff will set time for gymnasts to be in their rooms and times for lights out.

3.0Representation & Behaviour

3.1Golden Rule: Our good time must not interfere with anyone else’s good time.  We must remain considerate of each other (gymnasts/gymnasts; gymnasts/staff and other people).

3.2Coaches and gymnasts will be representing the club on our second trip to Denmark and the BGi Academy. How we conduct ourselves will reflect upon the club and British Gymnastics, as well as influencing future visits to Denmark.

3.3Gymnasts must remain mindful that there is a range of ages on this trip. Older gymnasts are expected to present themselves positively in the eyes of the young gymnasts.

3.4Gymnasts are required to show proper respect and courtesy to staff, coaches and the facilities at all times.

4.0Health

4.1Gymnasts must take sufficient nutritents, hydration and rest/recovery to cope with the increased training load and not waste the trip. Staff will support the gymnasts with this and gymnasts are required to co-operate and follow advice.

4.2Staff can and will reduce the training time of gymnasts that are not able to keep up with the required nutrition, hydration and rest/recovery.

4.3Gymnasts are high functioning individuals with a lot of time and energy invested in their health and well-being. Gymnasts should respect their own health and value what they have. As such the club continues to hold a zero tolerance on any form of drugs or smoking as does BGi Academy. Such an infringement would warrant immediate return to the UK and suspension from the club.

4.4This will be an alcohol free trip. Whereas we fully appreciate that some members are of UK legal age to drink, not everyone is and what’s more, this is not the purpose of the trip. Out of respect for everyone, we will not be allowing alcohol whilst away.

5.0Safeguarding

5.1Gymnasts and coaches are in same sex rooms. Males / Females are not permitted in each other’s rooms. Likewise, staff and under 18s are not allowed in each other’s rooms.

5.2Coaches cannot be in isolated situations with gymansts. As such, staff will work in pairs.

5.3Staff are required to know where all of the gymnasts (regardless of age) are at any given time. As such the gymnast must fully co-operate with the staff to maintain a trusting environment.

5.4Gymnasts under 16 are not permitted in rooms with gymnasts 18+.

5.5Proper discretion should be exercised when changing.
